Less than three months after announcing his candidacy, Deputy District Attorney Paris Coleman has dropped out of Sac County’s race to replace Anne Schubert, after struggling with fundraising and reportedly fainting in a courtroom.

Paris Coleman’s struggles with fundraising are likely related to his outward support of D.A. Anne Schubert and Sheriff Scott Jones’s failure to increase campaign contribution limits to an absurd $25,000.

In a Sac Observer interview, Coleman displayed admiration for Schubert’s leadership and failed to condemn her failed tough on crime policies that have victimized our communities.

“I think that we’ve tried to keep up. The system is not broken. I believe that it works. But there is a significant disconnect between some of our communities, particularly, communities of color, and law enforcement. That cannot be allowed to continue,”

“If you look at the way (Schubert) ran her office for all those years, for her to nominate a Black brother (a) Democrat, that means a lot and it’s nothing but straight up and down (respect).”

Our success in preventing Anne Schubert and Paris Coleman from introducing dark money into our election is proof that people power will always win if we organize!

Paris Coleman, the hand-picked successor of outgoing DA Anne Marie Schubert, has taken down his campaign website and leaves just two candidates in the race: Alana Mathews and Thien Ho.

Alana Mathews currently leads the pack and continues to grow support amongst grassroots organizations and Sacramento county voters. She has been endorsed by Sacramento Assemblymember Kevin McCarty, who has been elected by Sacramento voters in the last four consecutive elections.

Schubert has been Sacramento County’s District Attorney and is running against Newsom’s appointed State Attorney General Rob Bonta. She has failed to prosecute over 54 police-involved shooting incidents since taking office in 2014. She also backed failed state propositions to roll back important criminal justice reform efforts, choosing instead to repeatedly criminalize communities of color and low-income communities.
